Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs

Are your Dog Trainers certified?
Yes, our trainers are certified by the Animal Behavior College and are Alumni of the College.

What are the benefits of private dog training?

Lessons are customized to achieve your goals. Address issues that typically are not covered in group classes and issues that are specific to your home environment.

How old should a puppy be for training?

With a puppy that is eight weeks old, you can begin some basic training immediately. Keep it simple and don't chastise or correct your puppy if he is getting things wrong.

How long does it take to train a puppy?
It typically takes 4-6 months for a puppy to be fully house trained.

What is positive dog training?
Using positive reinforcement to train your dog means you reward the behaviors you like and ignore the behaviors you do not like. You can use treats, praise, or life rewards (such as games, walks, or car rides) to reward your dog's good behavior.

How long should you train a dog each day?
Keep the training sessions to 20-30 minutes max, per session. In addition, you can practice your cues (commands) for 5 - 10 minutes twice daily.

Can old dogs be trained?
Dogs can learn at any age. Adult dogs are often easier to train than young puppies because they have more self-control. It's also important to keep training your dog as it matures.

What types of treats should I use to train my dog?
A treat has a value to your dog. It could be food, a toy, a simple word or petting. Use only that specific type of treat when training your dog.

How much does it cost for a Certified dog trainer?
$75.00 - $125.00 per hour.
